Discussion with Dr. Meg Meeker
On February 28, 2012, at 3 p.m. in room 130 at the Middle School, GAP! is excited to host a discussion with Dr. Meg Meeker. She is a pediatrician, mother, and author of 6 best-selling books. Dr. Meg Meeker is the country's leading authority on parenting, teens, and children's health. All Middle School girls are invited to attend this hour long discussion. She will discuss Being Strong and Healthy in a Complicated Culture:
- How to have good self esteem and where it comes from.
- The pressures girls face that they may not recognize and how to resist these pressures.
- How girls can set high expectations for themselves and achieve their goals.
- An overview of the sexual messages girls are exposed to today and how these messages are harmful to girls' self esteem.
- Pressures to be thin and how to combat these pressures.

Middle School Program
In Our Last Best Shot, Laura Sessions Stepp says,
“For young adolescents already coping with enormous biological and social changes, a favorite class or activity can be an anchor in a large and churning sea.”
GAP! wants to be that anchor for middle school girls. We expose the girls to a variety of activities such as volunteeer opportunities, climbing, swimming, painting, writing, technology, and meeting influential women from our community.
GAP! meets at the Jackson Hole Middle School in Amy Manhart's Physical Science classroom. 6th graders meet every Tuesday from 2:30–5 p.m. and 7th and 8th graders meet every Wednesday from 2:30–5 p.m.
High School Opportunities
Former GAP! girls meet once a year to reconnect with Amy. Often former GAP! members return to serve as volunteers for our middle school program.
